Camping is one of my favorite ways to unplug—but I completely understand why it feels intimidating the first time.
Our first trip involved forgotten supplies, multiple store runs, and absolutely no clue how to set up a tent. That's why I always recommend starting with a group event before planning a full camping weekend. My favorite camp site is Assateague State Park but there are alot of option in Maryland.
Whether you're ready to spend the night or just want to test the waters, here are a few camping events happening over the next couple of months.
⛺ August 8 – Mount Airy Camp Night
Mount Airy, MD
Curious about camping but don't want to commit to a full weekend? This family-friendly evening includes The Muppets, s'mores, Dutch oven cooking, and you can head home afterward if you're not ready to stay overnight.
🎶 August 8 – Under the Stars: A Concert & Camping Experience
Upper Marlboro, MD
Spend an evening reconnecting around live music at this Black-owned outdoor venue featuring scenic trails, food trucks, and optional overnight camping. It's a great way to ease into camping while enjoying a concert under the stars.
🐉 August 15–17 – Epic Nerd Camp
Darlington, Maryland
Love Dungeons & Dragons, cosplay, or tabletop games? This adults-only weekend combines camping with live-action role-playing and fellow fans who share your hobbies.
🎧 August 21–23 – Crankin' Campout Weekend
Harford County, MD
Looking for a camping trip with a party atmosphere? This 21+ weekend features DJs, go-go music, pool parties, and camping all rolled into one fun getaway.
🏕️ August 22–23 – Great American Campout
Patuxent River Park • Upper Marlboro, MD
If you've always wanted to try camping but didn't know where to start, this is the event for you. Designed specifically for beginners, the park provides guidance while you enjoy classic camping activities. Registration is just $25 per person.
