M&T Bank Exchange

Why didn’t anyone tell me about this prior?

M&T Bank Exchange is a beautiful venue space next to the Hippodrome and they have Word, Wings and Wine in it, every other month. First off, as many times as I have been to the Hippodrome, I had no idea they were hiding this in the space. There is a parking garage attached to the building so you take the elevator straight into the building without having to go outside on the city streets. They have a full catering service so if you want to have a wedding or event here, they can feed everyone, and the wings were good!

Now for the Word Wings and Wine, they are approaching their 7th year and as like the newest def poetry jam of Baltimore. We had such a good time from the delicious wings to the drinks and the exceptional performers (artist, musicians and poets)

Here’s what you can expect in this video below:

Tickets available here for their June 5th show…celebrating 7 years of Word Wings and Wine.

Mother's Day is my least favorite holiday. There. I said it.

Eleven years ago I lost my mom and she never got to meet my children. Not one of them. She never got to hold them, spoil them, embarrass me in front of them, or do all the things grandmas do. And every year when this weekend rolls around, that's what I feel first, not celebration.

It's a particular kind of grief that doesn't get talked about enough. The kind where you're supposed to be the one being celebrated, but all you can think about is the person who's missing. The one who should be here calling you first thing in the morning and taking them out to lunch.

I know I'm not alone in that. Maybe it's your mom or it's a child you lost or it's the dream of motherhood that hasn't happened yet. I've been there too, deeper than most people know. Whatever your reason for feeling complicated this weekend, I see you. You don't have to perform joy you don't feel.

But here's where I landed this year.

My kids want to celebrate me because they don't know the weight I carry on this day. They just know they love their mom and want to make her feel special. So although I'm grieving, I refuse to let my pain steal their joy. So this year I'm showing up, allowing the kitchen to be messy Sunday morning from blueberry pankcakes with dad and being woken up early with home made cards and presents… and being able squeeze in a few quiet moments here and here. The important part is I will be showing up and getting out of bed.

And I wanted to share a little something for anyone who needs it today 👇🏽

Do a Solo or Girls Day at New Women’s Only Spa (Couples allowed on Thursdays)

I had the pleasure visiting Moroccan Glow Spa, Maryland’s only Moroccan Spa. When I found out the owner, Manara was a minority woman, I added it to my list but once she told me how this wasn’t just another spa but it was a cultural ritual that needed to be tried, I booked it immediately because I want us all to win!

When I got there, I realized this is definitely something my skin needed (especially before summer) and the head spa was the best! The Hammam Ritual put you in a huge steam room where you were scrubbed down and left with such a glow. Its hard to explain it so see the view below.
